Weaver, who pledged to work closely with his colleagues, will serve one year at the post, which rotates among council members. He will be responsible for running council meetings, and setting the agenda and the tone for the meetings. “We’re here to serve all of the residents of this community and the businesses,” said Weaver, after the council voted 5-0 to appoint him to the job during Tuesday’s City Council meeting. “It’s important we work together and communicate.” Weaver said his new responsibilities will take up much of his time, so he announced that he would resign from his post as a Bob Hope Airport Authority commissioner. Weaver succeeds Rafi Manoukian as mayor. Manoukian, a business consultant, said he was honored to serve as mayor. “My goal from the beginning was to be more accessible to the community and open up more channels of communication,” said Manoukian, who began his council term in 1999 and previously served as mayor in 2002-2003. During his term, Manoukian held his “Coffee with Rafi” meetings twice a month at the Glendale Farmers Market and in Montrose to solicit input from the public about community concerns. He said he plans to continue holding his coffee klatches. [email protected] (818) 546-3306last_img
