The 17-year-old daughter of a debt-ridden farmer committed suicide by consuming poison in Pathri taluk of Parbhani district in Marathwada on Tuesday.According to the district police, Sarika Jhute, a Class XII student at a college in Beed district, ended her life as she could not see her father, Suresh Jhute, weighed down by the debt he owes to Maharashtra Grameen Bank and other local district banks. The police said they have recovered a suicide note in which Jhute says she did not want to see her father end his life like his debt-ridden brother, Chandikadas Jhute, who died after consuming poison on August 3.The note reads, “Dear father, I have seen your brother take his life after the rains failed and the crops dried up. I have seen you struggle to repay the enormous debt. The loans taken during my sister’s wedding [in 2016] only aggravated your responsibility. I cannot bear to see you in constant tension. I do not want the fate of my uncle to befall you and hence I am ending my life.”Parbhani and seven other districts in Marathwada region are facing 60% deficient monsoon in August. The districts have recorded an average of 75 mm of rain against the 202 mm received in July. The poor rains have caused farmers to panic as the benefits of the government’s loan waiver scheme have not yet reached many of them.

Following three consecutive draws, two-time champions Argentina were in danger of missing the World Cup for the first time since 1970, but captain Messi singlehandedly booked the country’s ticket to Russia next year as they finished third.”Football owed Messi the World Cup,” Sampaoli said afterwards.”I told the group: Messi did not owe the World Cup to Argentina, but football owed the World Cup to Messi.“We should help him to be in a new World Cup. Russia 3 Spain 3: Visitors squander two-goal lead as Smolov & Ramos net braces Ryan Benson Last updated 1 year ago 04:46 11/15/17 Twitter: @SeFutbol Russia came back from 2-0 down to draw 3-3 in a thrilling friendly draw with Spain, as Fedor Smolov and Sergio Ramos scored two each. Spain showed rare signs of defensive frailty as they squandered a two-goal lead to slump to a thrilling 3-3 friendly draw with Fedor Smolov-inspired Russia on Tuesday, despite Sergio Ramos scoring twice from the penalty spot. The home side found themselves trailing 2-0 just after the half-hour mark, as Spain appeared to pick up where they left off in their 5-0 hammering of Costa Rica, but Russia fought back and ultimately secured a commendable draw thanks to Smolov’s stunning second goal.An entertainingly frantic first half saw plenty of attacking football and the opening goal took just nine minutes to arrive, as Jordi Alba – who broke the deadlock against Costa Rica on Saturday – headed in a Marco Asensio cross. A Guide to Bodywork: Massage, Acupuncture, Chiropractic, and More lululemon is a yoga pants brand, right? When we got our first pair of running shorts from the Vancouver brand a few seasons ago for a trail running race, that was our entire exposure to them. We were a little apprehensive about wearing a pair of flimsy shorts made out of yoga pant material on steep alpine zone runs that often include bushwhacking and frequent rock scrambles. Fast forward a few hundred miles of trails, some of their silverescent work out shirts, a pair of boardshorts that has seen lakes in five states, and more wash cycles than we can count, and we’re sold. We got to go behind the scenes at lululemon’s headquarters and design center to get an in depth look at how the brand has turned their mens activewear line from a small side project to a serious contender in the outdoors and urban markets. If you’re looking for high performance clothes for the gym, the office and everything in between, look no further.Related: Pack It In: Spring Running | All The Rage: Dirty Yogalululemon’s headquarters (the Store Support Center in company parlance) sits just minutes from beachfront parks and downtown Vancouver. We first noticed how open everything is – you’ll find marketing, design, and customer service teams just steps from one another, and not a cubicle in sight. It’s easy to see that every employee believes in the culture of “mindful athletics”, especially when heading into the WhiteSpace design center. Built specifically to harness lululemon’s relationships with fabric mills, world class athletes (they count multiple olympians and top tier outdoors and adventure athletes among their faithful), and biomechanics professionals, the WhiteSpace blends its space between creative design and data driven science seamlessly. From an endless pool system complete with viewing windows to evaluate athlete stroke and suit performance, to a motion capture suite that would give a Hollywood visual effects team pause, everything is geared towards finding perfection. The first thing we thought of was a kind of “skunkworks” and secret projects, but Brian Peterson, lululemon’s director of innovation quickly pointed out that from inception, many projects are cross disciplinary, involving both long term investment (some fabric technologies are more than five years out) as well as current product designers and marketers. The result is an agile design process that allows the men’s activewear to release products at a pace that would make a conventional retailer panic.Throughout the year, lululemon pushes collections on a biweekly basis; these are curated to take advantage of current weather, style trends, and typical outdoors and indoors activities for an every day athlete. The result is evident in the legions of loyal customers. We were most impressed by the collection mentality of the design team. Rather than simply let small teams own a certain product or category, outerwear, sweat specific, and transitional wear teams work in a concerted effort to build products with a specific focus that work together. For example, later this year the run category will be defined by an anchor piece that is a body mapped jacket designed around ventilation and movement. The layers closer to skin take both design and technical cues from the outerwear. What does this mean for the consumer though? Foremost, lululemon’s men’s line simply works. Sure, the newest hybrid T.H.E. Short ($78) looks great, but the function first design makes them incredibly comfortable whether you’re out for a SUP session in summer heat or doing a HIIT workout in the gym. That kind of performance lets you focus on the task at hand no matter if its navigating a rocky trail, or putting up a PR on your favorite olympic lift. The idea is to help lululemon customers focus on living in the minute – being a “mindful athlete” – rather than fussing with apparel and gear your entire workout. That attention to product detail is evident in fabric quality, fit, and performance in the entire line from workout specific to more casual office wear (trust us and try on a pair of the ABC Pants $128, and never look back). We’re excited to see their more technical outerwear line later this year; as with their running shorts and tops, we’re sure it will become a quick staple for performance driven, mindful athletes across the country. Rabat – A young Moroccan woman suffering from cancer gave birth to four healthy babies on Saturday at the Inezgane Hospital in the Agadir region. The 33-year-old woman was confronted with her cancer diagnosis when doctors discovered a tumor in her body while performing regular pregnancy tests, according to Le360 news website.Faced with the bliss of pregnancy and the hardship of such illness, she had to make the challenging decision of undergoing cancer treatment and not allowing a forced childbirth. Since chemotherapy and other cancer treatments cannot be performed in the first trimester of pregnancy, the woman from Inzegane had to wait for more testing to submit herself to treatment until she was considered medically safe.According to the same source, the future mother of four, attended the Lalla Salma Cancer Center for chemotherapy and pulled through its strong side effects with courage, until Saturday when she gave birth to her quadruplets. All four babies were born in good health and the mother is under observation, the hospital staff indicated. The father of the quadruplets is joyous for the miraculous addition to his family, although his wife is still suffering from cancer and in need of further treatment and medical attention. He appealed to the help of those who can provide for his wife’s recovery and family, since his income is “very limited”, the report noted. read more
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that around 3,200 Samoans have been forced from their homes, while the death toll stands at 137 people, with 310 injured and six still missing in the aftermath of the 8.0 magnitude earthquake on the ocean bed.OCHA said that assessments by the Samoan Red Cross (SRC) indicate that the 29 September earthquake, with its epicentre 190 kilometres south of the Samoan capital of Apia, sent waves crashing down on 40 villages along the south-eastern coast, completely destroying 20 of them. The Government estimated the cost of damage to infrastructure, including public and private properties, amounts to around $150 million as it downgraded the situation in the South Pacific island from a “state of disaster” to a “state of emergency.” The World Health Organization (WHO) said that UN agencies are conducting a comprehensive needs assessment and coordinating with the Government to develop a plan for reconstruction and recovery, and that the health surveillance system is in place and reporting daily. The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is on the ground in Samoa to meet the urgent needs of the estimated 9,000 affected children, 2,000 of whom are thought to be displaced. “From experience, UNICEF knows that in an emergency, children are the most affected,” said UNICEF Pacific Representative, Isiye Ndombi. “It is therefore essential they have access to clean water, proper sanitation facilities, are protected from vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles and are able to resume education.”The team arrived in Apia at the end of last week with thousands of emergency supply sets of oral re-hydration salts, water purification tablets and promotional materials on basic health practices in emergencies. At the weekend UNICEF managed to fly in early childhood development kits and recreational kits. For its part the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) has flown several hundred personal hygiene dignity kits into Samoa to be distributed to women and girls with more to follow later in the week. The agency also plans to send supplies to ensure hygienic births in homes and community centres, as well as equipment for deliveries at health centres, depending on need.WHO also voiced concern over the increased of risk of vector-borne diseases, health risks to displaced persons in affected areas and problems caused by the absence of waste disposal and sanitation in the Samoan and Tongan islands.A total of nine people died on the Tongan island of Niuatoputapu and more than 300 people were left homeless as a result of the tsunami, which destroyed 80 houses and seriously damaged another 56, OCHA reported.OCHA said that shelter and water top the list of needs for the survivors. WHO reported that a clean water supply has been restored and sufficient food supplies are available on the island. UNFPA is in the process of supplying dignity kits to victims, along with medical supplies and equipment for the hospital that was destroyed on Niuatoputapu.UN Development Programme (UNDP) Director for the Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery, Jordan Ryan, is slated to arrive in Samoa today to examine the tsunami damage and meet with the Prime Minister and Minister of Environment after concluding a two-day visit to Tonga, where he assessed the need for additional support for the country’s recovery efforts. The Government is also expected to conduct an assessment mission today to consider lifting the state of emergency in Niuatoputapu. 7 October 2009A week after a powerful earthquake in the Pacific Ocean triggered a series of tsunamis that devastated a chain of islands in the region, the United Nations today reported that thousands remain homeless and warned against the heightened risk of outbreaks of disease. read more

Professional gamers are not a new phenomenon, but would you call these people professional athletes and the games they play sports? Apparently the US government now considers the participants in the League of Legends Season 3 Championship Finals pro athletes, thanks to some serious negotiation from Riot Games. It’s easy to laugh at the idea that your time on the couch or in front of a mouse and keyboard is actually training in the sport of your choosing, but what happened here is a little more serious than that. Riot Games is one of several game studios that have been lobbying to get their games counted as legitimate sports by the government, so their championship players can be treated like real athletes. Why do they care? What this means, essentially, is that these players can now apply for work visas for their games, granting them a fast track into the US for extended periods of time. Riot Games eSports Manager Nick Allen explained in a recent interview that this is something that have been working towards for a long time now, and are very happy that it has finally happened. Now that we’ve pulled the pin out of this particular grenade, where is the line drawn exactly? There aren’t a lot of games out there that have the kind of viewing audience that League of Legends currently has, where the championship matches happen in front of sold out arenas full of people with millions watching at home.It seems like the next step would be for the US government to make a list of requirements that have to be met in order for other games and their competitive players to be treated the same way.Once you’ve wrapped your head around the idea that professional games and traditional sports athletes are slowly falling into the same category, you have to wonder where things go next. Will we live in a Gamer style future where eSports is as popular as regular sports and their athletes are capable of the same international appeal as the current superstar athletes? read more
Last week I hosted a business seminar that allowed me to speak to people on Main Street and see the current environment through their eyes. There is understandably quite a bit of confusion and hesitation amongst business owners looking to grow and manage their business effectively, so I thought I’d go back to basics and talk a bit about strategies and setting up for success. Firstly, have a plan: A plan can change and it can be improved as you move forward but without it you really don’t have a sense of where you’re trying to go. You need a plan. A plan should start with your goals. This should include a clear sense of what you want from your business, financially, professionally and personally. I have known people who have focused on simply one of these, and they’ve become demotivated. You must define how much money you want to earn from this enterprise; you must have a clear goal about what kind of professional glory you are pursuing; and you should define personal happiness before starting a business. A plan must also include marketing plans, key employees, financial and corporate structures, protections such as insurances and a really good system that tells you if you’re succeeding. This last one is something that many first-time business owners ignore. However, adopting key performance indicators and judging your business against them is crucial. It’s the method by which you judge whether the plan is working. Your plan should also delineate shareholders, investors, partners and the exit strategy. I advise business owners to think carefully about who they take on as a partner or investor – the right partner can be the best thing you ever did because they’re a mentor, a war buddy and someone to share the pain and the wealth with. You want a good partner, but you want to be a good partner too. The same goes for investors – the best one may not be the one with the most money, but the best contacts and the most experience. And then there’s exit strategy. Anyone who’s already owned a business will tell you that it’s worth thinking about your exit before you start a business. Many business ventures end in organised liquidation, trade sale or internal buy-out. And how that works is dependent on the structure and decisions about shareholding and rights etc. It’s worth discussing this with your accountant or solicitor before starting a business. And I always advise business owners to state in their plan what value they want to build the business to. That is to say, if a large business was to bid to buy your business, what price would you want and what kind of sale would you want? Once you start planning for these goals, you realise that you have to make certain structural decisions before you start the business. So I think very highly of planning. I’ve started, invested in and sold many businesses and I’ll do it all again in the future. And I don’t take any serious steps until I have a plan – a road map for success. Lastly, let me give you a good template for a business owner’s personality: Work, Play, Fight, Love, Believe. You must want to work, you must plan for downtime away from work, you must be prepared to fight for what’s right and for your business, you must have a love or a passion for what you’re doing, and you must arise each morning with a ton of belief in what you’re doing and where you’re going. Neighbors MarketVancouver Food CooperativeDowntown Vancouver boosters have long called for viable grocery options. A vital, thriving downtown core requires residents, they’ve argued — and residents require groceries. Now there are two grocery stores on Main Street south of McLoughlin Boulevard; a few blocks north is Arnada Naturals, dealing mostly in supplements but also featuring some gluten-free and other foods. Safeway, the nearest supermarket, is many blocks farther up the street. The Vancouver Food Cooperative and Neighbors Market are both growing every month, pulling in the passing public while nailing down niche customers. For the ultra-conscientious Neighbors Market, 1707 Main St., that means people who want to be certain their food has been vetted as local, natural and ethical in every way proprietor Lyn Krogseng can think of.“I have become very anti-mega-corporations,” said Krogseng. “I really think they are job-destroying evil empires.”“There is a burgeoning interest in real food,” said Kirk Wright, president of the Vancouver Food Cooperative board of directors. “I think we have complementary businesses. Lyn is as local as it gets, and she’s dedicated to that. That’s not exactly our mission — we aim for a more complete shopping experience.”In fact, the Vancouver Food Co-op, at 1002 Main St., has made a deal with Burgerville to stock the local fast-food chain’s new line of grab-and-go sandwiches and snacks. read more

It’s easy to understand what a print magazine is. When our readers sign up for a print subscription they know what they’re going to get. But a “digital subscription”—with an ever-growing array of devices and platforms— is such a broad term nowadays. It can be confusing for our readers to understand what we are offering them. If we offer the iPad edition, readers will also ask about the Android version, the Nook edition, the Kindle edition or the Google Play version. And where does that leave our beloved web-based digital edition—that link we email our readers? What version or edition do we name it so we don’t confuse our readers? We need to show our audiences and our readers that they now truly have the option to read the magazine on different platforms or devices, and that they can really read it the way they want. Below I’ve outlined three variations of digital editions and how we market them to our readers: 1. The Computer or Desktop Browser Version: In my marketing efforts we’ve re-named this digital version the “web-based digital edition.” The distinction was necessary because people signing up for digital-only versions or a print and digital combo were under the impression that they were also signing up for the iPad/iPhone edition. 2. iPad/iPhone: When marketing the Apple digital edition, we are making sure we let our readers know that they can read the magazine on both the iPad and iPhone device. It’s one subscription as long as they use one Apple ID on both devices.3. Nook/Kindle/Google Play: These three digital platforms are interesting to market. A person who has an Apple device can easily download the Nook, Kindle or Google Play application and can log into their account and access our magazines. Or if they have one of these devices they can also find our magazines there. However, when we marketed these digital subscriptions individually, we felt we were confusing our audience and many times not offering them the platform that they wanted. To help make it clear for them, we combined all the digital subscription offers into one message, as the image above shows. This type of combined promotion seemed to be the most effective way to let our readers know where to find us and how they can subscribe. The important thing to keep in mind with all of these platforms is pricing. If you have one rate on one platform and a lower rate on another, the customer will notice. As you can see, this is just the start. Next time I’ll talk about quality control and customer service issues regarding digital editions, and how we handle them.If you have any questions feel free to email me at email@example.com.Until then. read more

The new policy will expressly state that the dress code accommodates clothing worn for religious reasons or financial hardship. The settlement comes following a lawsuit brought by Wilmington-based Muslim Youth Center, Darul Amaanah Academy, and certain families associated with the center.Asian Muslim Children Swimming in an Apartment Swimming PoolSome of the children attending Darul Amaanah’s summer camp, consistent with their religious beliefs, wear headscarves, t-shirts or leggings while in public.Despite wearing such clothing at city pools for years without incident, pool staff harassed the children this past summer and repeatedly denied them access to the pool simply because of their religious beliefs, according to Darul Amaanah.Despite numerous complaints, including a cease and desist letter from Muslim Advocates and an acknowledgement from the mayor’s office that the city used “poor judgment” and “should be held accountable,” the city failed to take meaningful action, forcing the plaintiffs to file this lawsuit in August 2018, according to attorneys for the center.“I was born and raised in Wilmington, which is why it broke my heart to see our children face this kind of discrimination and humiliation from the city,” said Tahsiyn Ismaa’eel, founding director of the Darul Amaanah Academy summer youth camp.“Every child should be able to have fun in a public pool without having to worry about facing prejudice.”As part of the settlement, the city will provide additional training to employees of city-operated aquatic facilities and prominently display the new dress code policy at all city pools. The city will also extend the length of the 2019 pool season through Labor Day and provide $50,000 in compensation to the plaintiffs, according to the settlement. While the city didn’t admit any wrongdoing, Mayor Mike Purzycki and City Parks and Recreation Director Kevin Kelley both said Wilmington is committed to “ensuring the fair and equal treatment of all residents.”“Both parties agreed that today’s announced settlement helps to ensure that all residents of Wilmington are able to enjoy Wilmington’s aquatic facilities,” the mayor and parks director said in a joint statement.Muslim Advocates attorneys said they were pleased with the outcome.“Darul Amaanah Academy’s staff and families showed remarkable courage by publicly standing up for themselves and for the broader Wilmington community,” said Juvaria Khan, the senior staff attorney at Muslim Advocates.“Everybody — especially young children — should be allowed to use the pool without fearing that they will be discriminated against because of what they believe or the way they look. This situation should have never happened, and this settlement agreement helps ensure that it will never happen again.”____________________________________________Excerpt:“I was born and raised in Wilmington, which is why it broke my heart to see our children face this kind of discrimination and humiliation from the city,” said Tahsiyn Ismaa’eel, founding director of the Darul Amaanah Academy summer youth camp.Photo Caption:Website Tags and Keywords:Hashtags: read more
